The Dark Overlord A child watching Howard the Duck might not catch on to what's happening well enough to be disturbed when Howard and Beverly start getting extra friendly. John Landis was originally slated to direct the film, but after reading the script turned down the opportunity due to the police car crashes in the finale. Here's his explanation: "Such words--in print, if not in person--make certain people uneasy. One night, as he reads the latest issue of Playduck Magazine, his armchair begins to quake violently and propels him out of his apartment building and into outer space, where he eventually ends up on Earth, in Cleveland, Ohio. On the other hand, with its tonal problems, the animatronic issues, failure to target an audience, and the weird sex stuff, it was most likely already doomed for a lot of other reasons. As such, he sought to earn a position on the Cleveland police force by catching this mysterious farm stalker. Savvy viewers will also notice a few scenes shot in San Francisco, including the museum exteriors. Ghostbusters has influenced a lot of films, so it's harder now to see just how unique its structure was at the time.

Howard, Beverly, and Jenning get into Jenning's truck and flee from the police as Jenning continues his transformation. But despite his unusual appearance and unsavory reputation, there's a lot more to Marvel's most misunderstood mallard than you probably think.
The next section of the movie is an extended chase scene in which the two steal an ultralight aircraft, which they fly along roads searching for Beverly while the police remain in hot pursuit.
As home video became more commonplace, the tie-in novel slowly became a relic of a forgotten time, a quaint collectible at best, literary oddity at worst. Due to unfair treatment by his boss, Howard ultimately quits his job and returns to Beverly, who plays in a band called Cherry Bomb.

Or that Philsie desperately wanted to be a scientific mind that was respected by, and featured on, PBS? Well in the book, Weiner really doubles down with that aesthetic. One of those assets? He eventually decided to give up on his studies, wasting his potential.
They decide to visit a "Cajun sushi diner" where Jenning introduces himself as " the Dark Overlord of the Universe " and demonstrates his supernatural powers by causing a bottle of ketchup and a bottle of mustard to break.
